FOOD DONATIONS
More than 1.1 million NJ residents are food insecure including 270,000 children. A 2023 Passaic County report indicates that Clifton, Passaic, Paterson, Wayne, and Wanaque have the county's highest rate of food-insecure families estimated at 70,000+ households (13.6% of the county population) with an average meal costing $3.94. People of color, children and seniors are disproportionately impacted by hunger. Saint Peter’s Haven continues to see an increase in the number of pantry members. We are currently serving 1900+ households or 4900+ individuals. 66% of our pantry families are from Clifton.
Although we receive monthly allotments of food from the Community FoodBank of NJ, it is, unfortunately, insufficient to meet all our pantry members' needs. We rely on generous donors to fill the gaps, allowing us to provide nutritious food for all individuals and families we serve. If you are out shopping and want to assist, the following staple foods are always welcome:
Boxed milk
Brown rice (2 lbs)
Beans (dried or canned)
Canned tuna/meat
Canned fruits & vegetables
Cereal & oatmeal (no sugar)
Fruit & fruit juice
Olive oil
Pasta & pasta sauce
Peanut butter
Soups & stews (low sodium)
If you are interested in donating and would like to check what we need most, please feel free to contact us as our inventory changes constantly.
We also accept monetary donations and gift cards from local supermarkets to make additional purchases, such as meats and produce. Financial donations are particularly useful since we can buy food items in bulk at a reduced cost.
